Puppet partsPuppet Skeleton

Tonight i spent nearly all day in the LISPA space. I was there rehearsing our “creation” piece from 10-1:30, then worked with a friend on the “Save America” telethon, hosted by Richard Simmons and Tammy Faye Baker…which we may or may not present this term…but it may end with us blowing ourselves up…hmmm…(more on that later).

THEN i went and bought a drill index (yes, i’m tough), and some wing nuts and bolts (so fancy!), and returned to the space at 5:30, and just now got home (about 11:45pm).

YEE-HAW. That’s grad school for ya!

So, these last several hours have been spent working on the creation (birthing, one could say) of a puppet that is a creature that lives (or could live) in my abyss.

What is my abyss, you ask? Well, that is an EXCELLENT question. I’m not sure i can answer it in concrete terms, i know what it feels like, and might be able to draw some semblance of a picture…or describe a feeling…anyhow…as the night wore on, while i started out feelign VERY enthusiastic about my puppet, i became more and more disgruntled with it.

First off, i must say that my “space lab” projects tend to be on the ambitious side.

ok, very ambitious.

I can’t help it. I think big.

or if i think small, there has to be LOTS of it (whatever it is).

So, the puppet i drew (and the drawing is very nice), required me to make a very tall puppet draped in fabric.

So that’s what i’m making.

But something about the shape isn’t quite right, and now it looks more like i’m getting ready to go to Burning Man than introduce the creature that came from my abyss.

and that bugs me.

because i’m a perfectionist.

BUT, it’s kind of neat.

and it’s BIG. REALLY BIG.

My only consolation is that our other space lab teacher is having us make a costume of the creature that lives in our abyss (apparently this is a different creature - though i don’t think mine has many different types of creatures…in fact, i’m not sure my abyss has creatures at all…but that’s another story.) Anyhow, i have a GREAT drawing for my costume, which is going to be a very large dress/sculpture kind of thing made out of paper. But not really a dress (cause it’s more like a creature), and it doesn’t really have a face…

ANYHOW, more on that later.

For now, please enjoy my displace of puppet parts and my puppet frame. (please note it is actually taller than it looks in the picture).

Put your thinking caps on, cause I Need Your Help!

I need to pick a celebrity to “do” in class on Wednesday - any ideas?  I think this is for our grotesque/parody section…

We have to come in to class as the celebrity on Wednesday, and i think we eventually develop a little one-person piece as them.

Suggestions?!!

Back in London Town

Posted in Uncategorized on January 10, 2008 by camilleio

Well, that’s pretty much it.

After a fantastic vacation (holiday), in which I spend 2 wonderful weeks in Portland, followed by New Years in Chicago, I am back in London. I always get a bit heart broken when i come back after visiting home. I’m not homesick often here, but after seeing all you lovely people, readjusting’s not that easy. PARTICULARLY after New Years in Chicago! (though i by no means mean to imply that i miss my friends more than my family, cause i miss them too!!) But it was particularly special to get to spend new years in Chicago with the Starbirds, Tom & Siouxsie and Todd. We haven’t all been together in at least a year in a half, and we spend 4 days (give or take a few depending on who you’re talking about) “having mini adventures between meals” as Tom said. Though, for the most part those mini adventures consisted of going to get a meal or watching Arrested Development…

Speaking of which, I am in love will Will Arnett. Though, i have to say, didn’t really enjoy him so much in Blades of Glory (which I watched over the break with my parents), but his work in Arrested Development - AMAZING! And i’ve also decided that’s what I’d like for Christmas next year. yes, i know he’s married to that girl on the show that he marries, but COME ON, what about me, Will?

Okay, gushing aside…Chicago was amazing and it was just fantastic to get to spend so much quality time with good friends you’ve known forever. (And yes, i managed to drink too much whiskey on New year’s eve, but jamesons is just so tasty! as are those american micro-brews.)

The only bad thing i have to say about the trip is that Tom and Neal got to go see the Blazers play the Bulls and I didn’t get to go. Yes, i could have gotten my own ticket and joined them on boys night out (back to back nebulus and all), but it’s no fun to watch a basketball game by yourself! I mean, not for me…i only really appreciate it when i get a quality running commentary frmo a die-hard blazer fan (last one courtesty of the GCB, and he’s GOOD, people). And i knew i could count on Tom for that! But no, i stayed home instead. Which was fine, really…cause no one wants to infringe on boy love time between Tom and neal.

okay…i’m stopping there, but there’s definitely more to say, but i gotta go to bed. Just to whet your appetite, however, we’ve spent the last 3 days of school acting like children. From infants to about 7/8 year olds. Yes. it’s true. I pay for this.

Home Sweet Home -Dec 15

Posted in Uncategorized on December 13, 2007 by camilleio

Hey people!

So…we’ve just wrapped up our first term of the second year of LISPA - craziness, and I’m going to be home on Saturday! WOOHOO!

Don’t have too many plans so far, but for starters, I am going to see the Third Floor show with Mr. Joe Healy on Dec 21st, his lovely wife, Dee, is in it and it should be good fun! So, it’d be great if people want to meet up afterwards for drinks (or come to the show and then go for drinks) - not at the R&R, how sad…but somewhere around there. I won’t have a cell phone, I don’t think, while I’m home…but you can always email me.

See you all soon!

It’s been a long, long time…

Posted in Uncategorized on November 28, 2007 by camilleio

Okay, originally I posted this on my other blog, but i didn’t renew my subscription to .mac, so i had to find another place to blog, ya know…so i’m gonna try this out. So, this was originally written Nov 15…Ahhh, well, it has been a LONG time (as Tom reminded me in the email i got from him this morning), but
hey, i suppose if not updating my blog means i get emails from people i love, that’s cool!

So, how to pack the last couple months into this little blog - a challenging task, let me tell ya!

Well, where to begin - how about a little taste of our first project at school?

So, our assignment, should we choose to accept it (well, we didn’t really have a CHOICE, per se - i mean, we are paying for this course, aren’t we?) was to select an action movie, and in groups of 6-7, perform our version of that movie on a platform that was about 3 feet wide and 6 feet long. YAHOO!

So, my group chose Kill Bill (which was my suggestion - not that THAT matters, but hey, it’s a great suggestion!), and we had 2 weeks to devise (that’s our fancy lecoq word for create), our piece.

The bummer is that i missed a good chunk of the first devising week because i had to go back to Portland for my grandma’s funeral (more on that later), so i didn’t get to be Uma Thurman, which was a BUMMER, but when i got back, i did have a lot of fun helping to create the other bits - so here it is! (a GREAT example of the crazy shit we do!
